Acceptable Use Policy

Effective as of April 14th, 2026

  1. Introduction

This Acceptable Use Policy ("Policy") supplements the Tavus Terms of Service ("Terms") and governs your access to and use of the Tavus Platform, including any Customer Content you provide, any Customer Replicas, Media Files, or Interactive Media you create, and your use of such content within and outside the Tavus Platform. This Policy also applies to content created or transmitted through the Tavus APIs.

This Policy is designed to promote the safe, respectful, and lawful use of our Services, and to protect the rights of individuals depicted in or affected by content created on the Tavus Platform. Capitalized terms not defined in this Policy have the meanings set forth in the Terms.

Attempts to circumvent or violate this Policy will not be tolerated. Violations may result in the removal of content, suspension or termination of your access to the Tavus Platform, or other actions described in Section 7 below.

  1. General Requirements

You agree to: comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and third-party rights, including intellectual property, data protection, privacy, biometrics, artificial intelligence, and export control laws; use the Tavus Platform in accordance with the Terms, Documentation, and this Policy; obtain all necessary rights, licenses, consents, and permissions required for any Customer Content you submit, including explicit consent from individuals whose likeness, voice, or biometric identifiers are included in Seed Files or other content; monitor and control all activity conducted through your Account, including activity by your Authorized Users and End Users; use commercially reasonable efforts to prevent unauthorized access to and use of the Tavus Platform; and clearly and prominently disclose to End Users when they are interacting with AI-generated content or an AI-powered agent, rather than a real human.

  1. Replicas: Consent and Restrictions

3.1 Consent

Creating a Customer Replica requires the explicit, informed consent of the individual depicted in the Seed Files (the "Subject"). You are responsible for obtaining and maintaining the Subject's consent for the creation, use, and distribution of the Customer Replica and any Media Files or Interactive Media generated from it; honoring any request by the Subject to revoke consent or remove their likeness from the Tavus Platform; and ensuring that any use of a Customer Replica remains within the scope of the consent granted by the Subject.

A Subject may also contact Tavus directly at support@tavus.io to request removal of their likeness from the Tavus Platform.

3.2 Prohibited Replicas

The creation of the following types of replicas is strictly prohibited: replicas that depict or appear to depict individuals under the age of 18; replicas of real individuals, including public figures, without their explicit consent; replicas that display illegal, sexually explicit, violent, threatening, hateful, or otherwise harmful imagery, including through likenesses, symbols, or insignia; and replicas that infringe copyrighted images or other intellectual property without authorization from the rights holder.

3.3 Stock Replicas

Stock Replicas provided by Tavus may not be used in a manner that suggests the real-life actor personally holds, endorses, or possesses your stated opinions, characteristics, or conditions. You may not use Stock Replicas in political campaigns, fundraising, news broadcasts, or content around polarizing or sensitive current events without prior written consent from Tavus.

  1. Prohibited Uses

You may not use the Tavus Platform, or create, upload, or distribute any Customer Content, Media Files, or Interactive Media, for any of the following purposes. This applies to content created through any feature of the Tavus Platform, including Phoenix, Tavus Conversational, LipSync, the Tavus APIs, and PALs.

4.1 Child Safety — Any content that exploits, harms, or endangers minors is strictly prohibited. This includes content that depicts or facilitates child sexual abuse material (CSAM), sexual exploitation, grooming, trafficking, or exposure of minors to sexually explicit, violent, or otherwise inappropriate material. Tavus has a zero-tolerance policy for child exploitation and will report apparent violations to the relevant authorities.

4.2 Violence and Dangerous Activity — Content that promotes, incites, glorifies, or facilitates violence, terrorism, or criminal behavior, including threats of violence against individuals or groups, coordination of violent acts, content supporting dangerous organizations or terrorist entities, or the promotion of weapons, ammunition, or explosives.

4.3 Fraud, Scams, and Deceptive Practices — Content that facilitates fraud, scams, phishing, identity theft, or other deceptive practices, including impersonation of individuals or entities for fraudulent purposes, promotion of fraudulent financial schemes, social engineering attacks, or use of the Tavus Platform to obtain unauthorized access to non-public information.

4.4 Unauthorized or Harmful Impersonation — Creating content that replicates the voice, likeness, or identity of another individual without their consent or legal right, or in a manner intended to deceive, harass, or cause harm. This includes impersonation of public figures, government officials, or private individuals, whether for financial gain, reputational harm, or any other purpose.

4.5 Hate Speech and Discrimination — Content that promotes hatred, discrimination, or violence based on protected characteristics, including race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, or veteran status. This includes slurs, dehumanizing language, harmful stereotypes, and expressions of contempt or disgust toward individuals or groups.

4.6 Harassment and Bullying — Content that threatens, intimidates, shames, humiliates, bullies, stalks, or harasses any individual, or that promotes or celebrates the suffering of others.

4.7 Misinformation and Disinformation — Content that knowingly spreads false or misleading information, challenges established facts, or is designed to mislead the public on topics including elections, public health, civic processes, or current events. This includes participation in coordinated disinformation campaigns or inauthentic behavior.

4.8 Political Content — Content that displays political opinions, promotes political parties or candidates, engages in political campaigning or lobbying, or is designed to influence elections or civic processes. This includes voter suppression, impersonation of political candidates, and election-related disinformation. Use of the Tavus Platform for legitimate political advertising requires prior written approval from Tavus.

4.9 Sexual and Explicit Content — Content that is sexually explicit, pornographic, or depicts sexual acts, nudity, or other adult material. This prohibition applies regardless of whether the content depicts real or AI-generated individuals.

4.10 Self-Harm and Suicide — Content that promotes, encourages, or provides instructions for suicide, self-harm, or eating disorders.

4.11 Regulated Goods and Services — Content that promotes or facilitates the sale or exchange of illegal or restricted goods and services, including illegal drugs, controlled substances, weapons, counterfeit goods, stolen property, human trafficking, or commercial sexual services.

4.12 Intellectual Property Infringement — Content that infringes, misappropriates, or violates the intellectual property rights of any third party, including copyrights, trademarks, patents, and trade secrets.

4.13 Unsolicited Communications — Using the Tavus Platform to generate or distribute spam, unsolicited commercial messages, robocalls, or bulk communications in violation of applicable laws, including the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (47 U.S.C. § 227) and FCC regulations.

4.14 Professional Advice Without Qualification — Using the Tavus Platform to provide tailored legal, medical, financial, or other professional advice without the involvement of a qualified professional and clear disclosure that the content is AI-generated. General informational or educational content is permitted, but content that is individualized or could be reasonably relied upon as professional guidance requires appropriate human oversight.

4.15 Platform Integrity and Security — Any activity that threatens the integrity, security, or availability of the Tavus Platform, including attempts to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Tavus Platform; unauthorized access to accounts, systems, or networks; uploading malicious code, viruses, or other harmful software; circumventing moderation, safety, or access controls; scraping content or data from the Tavus Platform for training AI models; creating multiple accounts to exploit free plans, credits, or to evade enforcement; or accessing the Tavus Platform to build a competing product or service.

4.16 Compliance with Applicable AI Laws — You may not use the Tavus Platform in any manner classified as "prohibited" or "high-risk" under applicable artificial intelligence laws and regulations, including the European Union Artificial Intelligence Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689). You are responsible for independently assessing your obligations under applicable AI laws.

  1. Conditional Content

Certain types of content are generally permitted but subject to additional restrictions due to their sensitive nature. Tavus may, in its sole discretion, determine whether content falls under this section or is prohibited under Section 4.

5.1 Educational and Informational Content — Content addressing sensitive topics (such as health, human biology, or violence) that is purely educational or informational in nature may be conditionally permitted, provided it is clearly labeled as mature content where appropriate, is not targeted at minors, and is developed in a respectful and non-exploitative manner.

5.2 Religious Content — Content discussing religion or belief systems is permitted when presented respectfully and does not promote division, discrimination, or hatred.

  1. Content Moderation

6.1 Automated Review — Tavus uses automated moderation tools to scan and flag content uploaded to or generated through the Tavus Platform that may violate this Policy.

6.2 Human Review — Content flagged through automated systems, user reports, or other means may also be reviewed by human moderators.

6.3 Reporting — If you believe that content created through the Tavus Platform violates this Policy, please contact us at support@tavus.io with a description of the content, the reason you believe it violates this Policy, and your contact information.

  1. Enforcement

If content or activity is found to violate this Policy, Tavus may, in its sole discretion and considering the severity of the violation, take one or more of the following actions: remove the content or prevent its generation on the Tavus Platform; issue a warning to the user; temporarily or permanently suspend the user's access to the Tavus Platform; report the content or activity to law enforcement or other relevant authorities; or take any other action Tavus determines is appropriate under the circumstances.

Enforcement of this Policy is at Tavus' sole discretion. Failure to enforce this Policy in any instance does not constitute a waiver of Tavus' right to enforce it in other instances.

  1. Appeals

If you believe a moderation decision was made in error, you may submit an appeal to support@tavus.io with a description of the content and the reasons you believe the decision was incorrect. Tavus will review appeals in its sole discretion. Where possible, appeals will be reviewed by a moderator not involved in the original decision. Submission of an appeal does not guarantee a response or reversal of the original decision.

  1. Updates to This Policy

Tavus may revise this Policy from time to time in response to technical advancements, legal requirements, societal changes, or user feedback. Changes take effect immediately upon posting on this page. Your continued use of the Tavus Platform constitutes acceptance of this Policy, including any modifications. If we make material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you, such as via email or a notice on the Tavus Platform.

  1. Contact

We value your feedback on our content moderation processes and policies. For questions, concerns, or suggestions, please contact us at support@tavus.io.
