Tavus flight log: 2/6 + welcome :)

Howdy friends!
For those of y’all who I haven’t met personally before, my names Quinn, I’m the founder of Tavus. Hassaan and I started building Tavus back in 2020, and we just recently celebrated 5 years. Each passing year, the velocity continues to compound. What’s happening inside Tavus right now isn’t new- but it is the strongest expression of the work we’ve been doing all along.
We’re building a lot and shipping faster than ever, and with that, I’m going to start writing a weekly update each Friday for a small group of our early adopters and power builders. My goal is to give a raw view into what we’re doing over here as we build together to bring human computing to life.
So let’s start there- you’ve likely seen this on our site, but we call Tavus the human computing company. We don’t see ourselves as only video AI or video agents. And we really hate the word avatars (story for another day). We’re building an interface. A better way for humans to communicate with machines, where the machine actually adapts to us to participate in this beautiful, nuanced, ambiguous dance of human communication. But to achieve this, we first have to teach the machine how to not just look like us, but to talk like us, listen like us, understand like us, see like us.
Building that interface unlocks a future where AI works alongside us, as real partners- coworkers, assistants, and companions that understand us. Teachers that give every student personalized attention, onboarding assistants that adapt in real time, and companions for the elderly that are present. That is human computing.
Now separately, you also may be wondering why this is called the flight log. Two simple reasons: 1. I love planes/am a huge AvGeek, and 2. Tavus means Peacock in Turkish. This is where most of our names come from- from Phoenix, to Raven, to Sparrow, all the way to our weekly all hands called Wings of Progress.
I’ve spent a lot of time sharing context, so in terms of this week's updates, I’ll keep it short:
Next week is a big one- you’ll see a launch for our brand new perception/understanding model. It's a massive upgrade.
We’re building this together, and on this journey together. This is from my email directly, so always feel free to drop me a reply with questions/feedback/ideas/etc. Onward
See you next week,
Quinn
